Learn about the duties of the Maine Gambling Control Board!

The Maine Gambling Control Board is a gambling regulatory body that oversees gambling activities in the state of Maine.  The Maine Gambling Control Board was created in 2004 with the purpose of establishing a strong regulatory process for slot machine gaming facilities as approved by the voters in the state of Maine.

The legislation in Maine allows two facilities, but only one of the facilities was approved at a local governmental level.  In November of 2005, the first temporary facility in Bangor called Hollywood Slots opened.  Ever since gambling was legalized in the state of Maine the regulation of gambling was given to the Maine Gambling Control Board.  This board is important as it ensures that all of the rules are followed.  In addition, this board also provides a fair and safe gambling environment so players can rest assured that they are protected at all times.

The citizens of Maine voted to expand gambling in 2010 and with that vote a casino was opened in the county of Oxford.  The Maine Gambling Control Board is also the regulatory body that ensures that the casino follows all the regulations and laws set by the state. It does this within the ambit of a safe gaming environment. The Maine Gambling Control Board takes its duties seriously and does everything it can to ensure that citizens and visitors to the state enjoy their gaming experience.

Another important objective of the Maine Gambling Control Board is to ensure that the state receives revenue for gambling activities.  This revenue will then be used for the provision of goods and services to the citizens of Maine.
